Cassie sea walls

These walls have been built in Papay for generations and continue to safeguard areas of coastline that are vulnerable to erosion.

Papay Development Trust hosted a traditional skills weekend in October that gave folk the chance to learn how to build these cassie walls. A team of 11 folk under the supervision and guidance of local 'experts' managed to shore up outbuildings at Hookin that were at risk of falling into the sea and continued the wall north along the coastline. The best way to learn more is to take a look through the gallery of pictures below and enjoy the time lapse footage that shows the achievements of the weekend.
