The Seas Around the North Isles

Your chance to discover more about the maritime history of the North Isles

NILPS is working with Wessex Archaeology to deliver a project that covers many aspects of North Isles maritime history. It will look at prehistoric seafaring, shipwrecks, maritime heritage and how sea links and industries have shaped the character of each island will all be studied and maritime art will be explored in more detail.

There will be opportunities for people to get involved and find out more, add to existing research and learn new skills. These will include surveying, mapping and even expanding creative and artistic abilities.

There will be a series of information events where people can find out more. These will be held:

Monday 28th October at 18.30 - 20.30, Community Room, Sanday Community School

Tuesday 29th October at 18.30 - 20.30, Community Room, Westray Junior High School

Wednesday 30th October at 12.00 - 13.30, St Ann's Community Room, Papa Westray

Thursday 31st October at 12.00 - 14.00, Heritage Centre, Eday

Friday 1st November at 18.00 - 20.00, Community Centre, North Ronaldsay

Saturday 2nd November at 14.00 - 16.00, The Boathouse, Shapinsay

Thursday 7th November at 10.00 - 11.00, The Crafthub, Rousay

Thursday 7th November at 18.30 - 20.30, The Community Room, Stronsay
