Built in the 1700s, the Nouster Boat Store and has been used continuously as a boat store by the Island lairds and other boat owners in Papay. It was purchased from Holland Farm by the Papay Development Trust in 2020.
The Store is situated next to the community owned Kelp Store, the Island’s heritage and arts centre. The Papay Community intended to renovate the building, creating a space where local heritage boats could be displayed for public viewing. The project would expand the existing cultural hub for locals and visitors.
Building work comenced in 2024 and included extensive repointing, works to doors, windows and lintels, and rebuilding of a perimeter wall. The project was completed in the Autumn of that year.
The community now aims to develop the first floor of the building to create a space that can be used for creative residencies.
