At least one key project has been identified on the majority of the populated isles, with each building/ facility to be sympathetically restored and brought back into a state where it can be either viewed or used by local people and visitors. Work will focus on interpretive elements showcasing the history of the building, or on providing new space for community and/or visitor use.
The Small-Scale Built Heritage Enhancements project will have a significant benefit for the participating local communities. The enhanced buildings will provide a new or improved facility which can be utilised by local people and community groups.
The enhancements will also help boost tourism in the North Isles, giving visitors an additional building to view, utilise and enjoy during their stay.
Local businesses/trades people will be able to bid for contracted works associated with the project, with opportunities for skills enhancement also available.
