Tombs of the Isles: Neolithic Landscapes of the Dead Tomb Trail

Quoyness chambered cairn in Sanday
Key Information:
Theme:

Landscape

Time Span:

April 2020 – March 2022

Area:

Throughout The Isles

This project will shine a light on some of the lesser known Neolithic burial cairns in the North Isles. Archaeological research and survey work will form the basis of the study, with the potential for some small- scale excavations to also take place.

The results will be shared through presentations and published material and will also inform the creation of a ‘Neolithic Landscapes of the Dead’ chambered tomb trail. This trail, which people can follow across the North Isles, will connect a number of monuments, some of which are rarely visited.

There will be opportunities to get involved through training events and other activities.

As the project develops, more information and details about how to take part will be included here. Sign up to our mailing list to find out about the latest developments.
